Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, Navigating Rumors and Relationships in the Music Industry

Writing hits, or fighting, in the world of musical inspiration- Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo!

Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo allegedly at odds? More than a few social media rumors have been sparked by this query, but Rodrigo is not amused by any of them. The Grammy winner said in an interview with Rolling Stone that she is not interested in the online scuffles surrounding the alleged feud.

Rumors of tension between Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo

Why are a lot of internet trolls convinced that Swift and Rodrigo are at odds? Before Rodrigo released her debut album, “Sour,” in May 2021, as summarized by Rolling Stone, the two singers seemed to get along well. Swift and Rodrigo met in person for the first time at the BRIT Awards, and he openly acknowledged Swift as an inspiration while they posed for a photo.

The song was influenced by Taylor Swift’s 2019 song “Cruel Summer,” which was written by Swift, Antonoff, and Annie Clark, according to previous comments made by Rodrigo. Now, according to Rolling Stone, the song’s listing on Spotify and TIDAL, which relates to the bridge of “Deja Vu,” includes all three songwriters.

Prior to the new information, Rodrigo’s track “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back” from his debut album “Sour,” which draws inspiration from Swift’s song “New Year’s Day,” which appeared on her 2016 album “Reputation,” also had a writing credit for Swift.

How Taylor Swift’s music played a role in Olivia Rodrigo’s work

The rumored beef between Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift, according to her, is “nothing to say. “Early in her career, she cited the songwriter of “Bad Blood” as an inspiration, and the two even corresponded via handwritten letters.

However, after Taylor and her writing partner Jack Antonoff received two writing credits on Olivia’s debut album “Sour” for the songs “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Nack” and “Deja Vu,” which were respectively inspired by “New Years Day” and “Cruel Summer,” fans theorized that their friendship had soured.

Lyric Analysis:

On June 30, 2023, Olivia released her first single from her sophomore album Guts, called ‘Vampire’.While many initially thought it was about her ex-boyfriend Adam Faze, some sources told People that it could relate to the Taylor Swift situation.

The song includes lines such as, “Hate to give the satisfaction, asking how you’re doing now, How’s the castle built off people you pretend to care about?” and “But you made me look so naïve, the way you sold me for parts as you sunk your teeth into me, oh bloodsucker, famefucker, bleedin’ me dry, like a goddamn vampire.”

Sabrina Carpenter, Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift

Also in June, Swift announced her Latin America dates for the Eras Tour, simultaneously naming singer Sabrina Carpenter as the support act.

Given that Carpenter is thought to be the subject of the songs “Driver’s License” and “Déjà vu,” fans thought this was a strategically important choice. To put things into perspective, Carpenter dated Joshua Basset, who was previously dating Olivia.

Carpenter has also written songs that are thought to be about the circumstance, such as “Because I Liked A Boy,” which contains the lyrics “Now I am a homewrecker, I am a sl*t, I got death threats filling up semi-trucks” and “I would not recommend it because it was all so innocent, dating boys with exes.” Swift’s US tour dates with Paramore were a salty addition to the wound.

Given that Rodrigo was such a huge Swift fan in her youth, it was even more surprising when she told the New York Times that she had not attended the Eras Tour with the thousands of other celebrities.

Guts Album Release

One of 2021’s biggest hits was Olivia Rodrigo’s self-titled debut album. The second installment of Olivia Rodrigo’s sophomore album, Guts, was released by the 20-year-old pop sensation with the most well-known driver’s license in the world. The history of pop stars is replete with second albums that were complete dud, but, phew, Guts Slaps; remained at the top of the Billboard 200, and it feels like an obvious Album of the Year contender.

Additionally, it presents Rodrigo at an intriguing juncture in her artistic evolution and raises issues regarding her musical identity, how she is establishing herself in popular music, and, yes, laminated pastry dough.

The Mystery Continues:

On September 8, 2023, the full Guts album was released, and fans immediately devoured every word in search of hints.

The songs “Lacy” and “The Grudge,” which were singled out by fans as possible references to the Swift feud, both make mention of it. ‘The Grudge’ has some allegedly pointed references.

Although there have been instances when their behavior has appeared a little odd, such as when a well-known Swiftie skipped Swift’s legendary Eras Tour, we cannot say with certainty that the two still have a romantic relationship. Simply wait for their response while keeping an eye on this space.
