Tragic Bus Fire on Maharashtra’s Samruddhi Expressway Claims 25 Lives

In a horrifying incident, 25 people lost their lives when a bus traveling from Nagpur to Pune on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra caught fire.

The incident occurred around 1:30 am on Saturday in the Buldhana district. The private travel bus was en route to Pune city from Nagpur when a tire blowout caused the bus to lose control, crash into a road divider, and subsequently burst into flames.

The bus, operated by Vidarbha Travels, was carrying 33 passengers at the time of the accident.

Eight survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital, while 25 passengers were tragically charred to death. Many of the passengers hailed from Nagpur, Wardha, and Yavatmal.

One of the survivors recounted the terrifying ordeal, stating that the tire of the bus burst and the vehicle caught fire immediately.

The blaze spread rapidly, leaving little time for passengers to escape.

The survivor and another passenger managed to escape by breaking the rear window of the bus. However, not everyone was able to do the same.

The local residents who arrived at the scene after the accident described the situation as horrifying. They witnessed people trying to break the windows of the bus to escape, but the fire was so intense that they could do nothing to help.

The residents lamented that had vehicles passing by the highway stopped to help, more lives could have been saved.

The Maharashtra Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The accident has once again brought to light the issue of road safety in India, where deadly road accidents are common due to reckless driving, poorly maintained roads, and aging vehicles.

Over 110,000 people are killed every year in road accidents across India, according to police data.
